well hello

ca va?  that is french slang for how goes it:>  i am doing pretty well.  like a big blabbering baby, i am always up for talking about my little problems but you know what?  sun's out.  i'm getting caught up with work finally.  kids are happy.  and i've been sewing.  so i won't tell you about the dog fight i was in (yes, seriously) or the torn ligaments in my shoulder or the fact i haven't been able to vacuume my house for days - which is the kind of thing that sends me over the edge normally.  it will all work out .. and these problems are very small.

the dress?  it is one of the limited edition dresses i'll be adding to the shop later this week.  it is extremely pretty and a bit girly i guess with it's ruffles.  it's the only thing i wanted to make with this fabric though.  the fabric - it is a poly crepe from france in a deco print.  navy, dark red on white with a black plum silk organza trim on the sleeves and hem of the dress.  the silhouette is similar to the new flutter sleeve dress but without all the shirring.  the waist is pulled in with a simple navy grosgrain ribbon.  there are side pockets (of course) and a not too deep neckline with a wide facing underneath.  the shoulder is dropped with a curly ruffled sleeve.

the first time i put the dress on i loved it.  i liked the ease of the belted waist.  the flirty ruffle at the hem and the way it moves when i walk.  i love the sleeve, which offers a little more coverage and the slight sheen coming off the silk organza against the matte fabric.

the fabric - yes, it is a poly.  i know, i know .. but i would never have bought this fabric if i had not felt like i would myself wear it.  the fabric feels light and soft, like a rayon.  i bought it last year with some other fabrics from the mill in lyon (france).  i wasn't sure what i would make with it but after visiting florence again last summer i had a pretty good idea. as we were strolling around the square i was really taken with all these women in a particular kind of dress.  there were ruffles!  and the length was always on the modest side.  this will be the first dress in my closet with ruffles and i couldn't be happier.  if we make it to europe again i will bring it.  in the meanwhile i'm content to wear it to any event elevated beyond jeans and a blouse.

if you are interested in pre-ordering the dress feel free to write or leave a comment.  the dress is $165.  sizing is as usual.

* * * pre-orders closed on this version of the dress now ... have to save the others for the shop :>  there is room for 1 or 2 pre-orders on the other print version (see following post).  thanks!  u.

Beautiful Ursula! I want both. The one above and the one with the red silk trim. Just need to figure out right size.

I seem increasingly to be unable to keep track of anything (due dates, any dates). I do adore this dress, would love to pre-order one, pockets make everything better.
