late in the spring i bought some of those paper flower seed packets and spread them over my front and back gardens. i watered them along with the rest of my little plant friends and didn’t really think about it until i saw fields of small sprouts emerging. i wasn’t sure they’d survive the summer heat that was coming but by june i had at least 100 delicate long-stemmed poppies swaying in the front yard. in back i’d planted mexican sunflowers. the picture of a bright orange flower on the packet looked pretty. each seed has grown into literally a bush of flowers and continues to bloom. the orange is really this vibrant. when i think of the money i’ve spent on flowers i’ve fallen in love with at first sight at the nursery and taken home with me .. and the flower seeds cost less than $10.
