inside mission san fernando.  i wanted to visit at least one of the old california missions on our trip down south.  this one i found out later had to be rebuilt due to an earthquake in the 70s, never the less – an exact replica.  the grounds were beautiful too.  i’d love to visit a few more, san capistrano in particular.  i grew up catholic but had not been confirmed until i was almost a teenager.  my sister and i were sent off to bible studies each weekend with a much younger group of kids beforehand.  after confirmation my mom took us to church almost every sunday for a few years, sometimes during the week too.  it was during the week that we went to mass in the smaller chapel that flanked the much larger church.  the chapel is all that’s left of the original church but i remember it as being bright in the early morning and having a beautiful golden altar.  i’ll have to go back and see it again next time i’m in my hometown.
