a few dresses from the fall collection i’m going to show to buyers soon. the tunic in the first picture is fun. little rounded patch pockets in front to put your hands in, very short, to wear with tights or over jeans. the fiji dress underwent some changes. i did a capped sleeve, deep scoop neck and made the dress generally slimmer through the hips. it looks good in the wool, less heavy. more curvy.
be my valentine
the last few polka dot parisienne are on sale at 30% today only in the shop.
my beloved K A L X
KALX is the college radio station in berekely, california. i listened for years and years after turning the dial and suddenly hearing a song by australia’s the go-betweens. it was love at first listen. who are these dj’s who seem to know my music ? i’m not a snob about music. just very sentimental. very moved by some music. there is some music i cannot ever listen to again .. billy mackenzie of the associates. just too sad, too much.
when we moved to this little town i didn’t think much about KALX. i started listening to NPR all day and realized i was finally starting to absorb some details about the news of the world. we’ve been here 5 years now. if you were to ask me what i miss most about the bay area, where we moved from, KALX would be in the top 3. the others being my sister and any apt. we lived in with our baby .. oof i feel the tears coming on already.
i told my husband this on saturday and he picked up my i-phone and pushed some buttons. he handed it to me and suddenly i was listening to KALX streaming through clear as a bell. at work this morning the rain was coming down softly outside. a welcome rain. KALX was playing next to my sewing machine, an older much needed friend.
sometimes the news of the world is just too much. too much sadness. too much to be absorbing all day.
blue and grey
the spring collection is sewn up and getting ready to ship to stores around the northern hemisphere. this was a big season. we had to rent an additional studio just to house the clothes!
samples
there are a few samples for sale over in my etsy shop right now. pieces i tried out but decided not to use so they never got past the sampling stage.

makers series
oami started a series of profiles about women makers on the blog she shares with her twin sister and she kicked it off with a post about yours truly. the post was incredibly thoughtful, like oami. it really brought home for me what a great ten years we’ve shared as friends, collaborators not to mention our husbands are childhood best friends. love the old pics too!
crispin hellion glover
back in the day i had a mad, mad crush on crispin hellion glover. his films at the time became cult classics over the years – the river’s edge, twister .. i thought he was gorgeous, clever and something about the way he talked and moved drove me crazy. i bought his book and followed his arty antics. when i briefly lived in los angeles for a summer i was out walking on a warm night in west hollywood with friends. someone pointed to a tall art deco apartment building and declared, “crispin glover lives in the penthouse there”. i stopped in my tracks and stared up, hoping he might also be going for a stroll that evening. they had to pull me away. i still love him. so when a good friend in the publishing business met him at a party recently she told him about me. she was also nice enough to get a signed copy of rat catching for me. i’m intrigued by the signature … “soon” i’m still crazy about you crispin.
