i wanted to share some pics of the new house now that’s it’s been lived in a bit. i would have preferred a tidier version to share but with a 5 and 8 year old the chance seldom presents itself. we started a garden in the backyard: strawberries, tomatoes, some herbs and lots of flowers. i discovered we have an apple tree, fig tree, blackberries, lavender, lilac .. the grass is thick and overgrown. i don’t want to cut it.

Wow Ursula! It looks wonderful! I love all your red accents. A very charming house indeed. My place is still empty, I need to get cracking on that. Did you end up taking the outdoor cat from your old place?
yes! that is sofie in the background of last pic. when i picked up the cats from the old house i sort of expected a fight out of her but she went right into the carrier. they both adapted well. glad i brought her..
Lovely photos Ursula…so cozy and charming. You’re going to have to send me some info about the paint colors! In your book collection, I spy “The Little Island” and “The ABC Bunny.” Margaret Wise Brown and Wanda Gag…two of my all-time favorites! And G. and I share the same reading posture, except my legs hang over the chair arm. So happy to see you all settled in!
betty – yeah, she’s great. i’d love to get more of her books. i remember reading an article about her in vanity fair awhile ago, her personal story is pretty interesting. she died so young ..
i also really like the children’s author virginia lee burton – “the little house” especially. my kids won’t let me read it anymore though because i start sobbing every time. no kidding!
Oh, I love her too! Clement’s favorite Virginia Lee book is “Life Story,” which we still read together, and I always cry at the end of that one. Yeah, he looks at me like I’m crazy, but it’s such an amazing book. Then there’s Barbara Cooney and Esther Averill (Jenny and the Cat Club!) And talk about weeping, do you know Eleanor Estes’ “The Hundred Dresses?” I’m thankful my mom picked out such great books for me when I was a kid!
It’s bright, airy, warm, lovely. I can’t believe Marcello’s hair is so dark now, that makes me want to cry, he’s getting so big!
Love everything–including the laundry in progress (?) on the sofa!! It all looks so lovely and inviting, Ursula. Congrats on the discovery of the fruit trees/bushes and lilacs. I’ve been coveting the local lilac bushes here for years! We did manage to plant a fig, a peach, and a cherry tree a few weeks ago though. This was of some consolation to me after discovering that my honey bees decided to evacuate my hive?!
lesa – yes, laundry everywhere on easter .. you had bees ? wow .. we have some friends who just moved from SF to petaluma and took their bees with them. would be great if you came up here sometime by the way.
Your home looks great, lovely & cozy with lots of light!! Sounds like a wonderful garden, too. Glad to hear Sophie chose to make the move with you. Most cats are not as independent as they pretend
Oh Ursula I love it !!!
Such a beautiful home.
mandy – thank you! a real compliment coming from you (you know i love your home too!)
oami – marcello is huge now. he is almost 9 right? he wears a size 12. we thought he’d be this skinny little kid but he’s like a wrestler now.
wow! digging your home!!! chic and comfy!
the place is looking lovely ursula – so cosy but still really bright and airy. the kitchen looks really cute too.
How lovely. Your home looks so cozy, inviting, and inspiring!
beautiful! it already looks as if you have lived there for years! i love the built-in shelving + curved archways. welcome home
Ursula, I just realized that my reader thingy was subscribed to your old blog – I’ve been missing your news so I went hunting and am so happy to see some shots of your new nest. It looks amazing.
Fondly,
Heather
